Czapek & Cie Faubourg de Cracovie Crossroads Secret Alloy.
Czapek CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel emphasizes the significance of refocusing on the Faubourg de Cracovie collection as the brand's only chronograph, in its current collection, featuring a case design with hollowed-out lugs and integrated pushers that embody modern classicism. The introduction of a tachymeter allowed for a creative blend of traditional craftsmanship, like guillochage, with sporty functionality. The tachymeter scale, found around the dial or bezel, enables calculations of speed based on travel time or distance. Historically linked to motorsports, tachymeters became popular on Swiss chronographs in the early 20th century, providing practical benefits for drivers and aviators. Despite modern alternatives, tachymeters remain appealing for those wanting to embrace the spirit of racing or check car speed accuracy, especially on winding roads.
The Faubourg de Cracovie Crossroads dial exemplifies Czapek's dedication to beauty through its intricate texturing and light-reflecting qualities. Adjusting the main dial to fit the tachymeter scale required proportional reductions in the chronograph sub-dials, while a more pronounced flange ensured they remained prominent. Collaborating with Metalem, Czapek developed a new guilloché pattern called "Crossroads," which features straighter, widely spaced lines reminiscent of tire treads, symbolizing its racing heritage.
